VACCINATIONS - * IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ! *

ALL DOGS AND CATS COMING INTO OUR KENNELS AND CATTERY MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED AT LEAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE THEIR STAY

It is compulsory that all dogs must be fully vaccinated against:

Every 3 years:

  • DHP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus)
  • Preferably DHPPI (Parainfluenza)

Yearly:

  • L4 (Leptospirosis)
  • *KC / RESPIRIA (Kennel Cough)*

    * KENNEL COUGH: While the kennel cough vaccine is not currently a strict requirement for boarding, we do require dogs to be vaccinated against it wherever possible. It is often given as a live vaccination and MUST be given at least 2 weeks prior to arrvial. We will not accept dogs who have had this vaccination given within the 14 days before arrival.

We strongly encourage owners to speak with their vet about whether it’s suitable for their dog. Every dog is different, and the decision should be based on their individual health needs. In some cases, such as dogs with certain medical conditions, or when someone in the household is immunocompromised, a vet may advise against giving the vaccine.

We fully understand and respect these circumstances, and we will continue to accept dogs who cannot have the vaccine for health-related reasons. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your dog’s situation, we’re always happy to help.*

      Puppy (Primary) or Restart Vaccinations

With primary or restart vaccinations, there are two doses of vaccinations required. To be fully vaccinated your pet will have the first dose and then after three/to four weeks the second dose will be given. Two weeks after the second dose, your pet is fully vaccinated and they can explore the outside to their heart's content, and we can happily look after them in our kennels!

Because of this, if your pet is getting a primary or restart vaccination, this needs to be booked in with your vet at least 6 weeks before the start date of any booking with us.

      Vaccination Cards

Your pet needs to be up to date with their vaccination booster jabs required annually, and if due please ensure they are administered at least 2 weeks before staying and do not expire during a stay.

Vaccination Cards must be produced at each visit, or an email forwarded from your vet confirming vaccination details and administered dates. Regrettably, if we are unable to confirm your pet is fully vaccinated, we must refuse entry for boarding, and the full booking charge will apply.

It’s very important to keep up to date with your pet's vaccination needs for a multitude of reasons, and especially when looking for care for your pet in a boarding facility, this should be a requirement to ensure the health and well-being of all residents.

      Flea and Worming Treatment

We also require all pets to be fully up to date with all necessary preventative worming and flea treatments. If your pet is showing any signs of parasites, we unfortunately won't be able to look after them during your holiday.

My dog is nervous of other dogs - what can you do to help?

How do you keep my dog comfy in the hot and cold?
As well as each block having radiators to keep warm, each kennel has an individually controllable thermostatic heat lamp combined with ample blankets for comfort and warmth.

To keep your dog cool we have air conditioners, combined with the use of fans, air coolers and water misting of the outside runs, plus generous shade in our paddocks. If your dog loves water, we can provide a paddling pool in the outside area of their kennel upon request.

Will my dog be allowed to socialise with the other residents?

All animals from separate households have their own kennels, and whilst in their kennel do not mix with other dogs. If your doggie is friendly with others and loves to play with other dogs, then we are happy to add them into our group play sessions.

Are dogs kennels stressful for dogs?

Whilst some dogs may struggle in kennels, we do our utmost to give your dog the best holiday experience whilst in our care! If you have a pup who may get nervous, we recommend booking them in for some taster sessions before any longer holidays. We will always provide open & honest feedback on how they've been!

      Do kennels take puppies?

We are more than happy to look after puppies as soon as they are fully vaccinated (this is two weeks after the second round of vaccinations) usually at 14 - 16 weeks old!

Dogs under 1 year old must have a taster day and taster night stay before their holiday, to help your pup feel reassured and have a positive association and settle at our dog kennels for life!

How often will my pet be fed?

We feed your pet as per your instructions, following the same routine that you do at home, whether that’s one, two or three feeds throughout the day.

We recommend you bring your pets usual food to avoid a sudden change in their diet, although we are very happy to provide food for a small additional charge if preferred. We also strongly recommend you bring a scoop for any dry food to allow us to easily replicate amounts as at home. We also suggest you bring enough food to last a few days beyond your pets scheduled stay.

What should I bring in for my dog on their holiday?

We provide plenty of fun enrichment and cuddles as well as the essentials... Snuggly bedding and blankets, heating, a selection of toys and food* (*with a small charge).

However, there are a few things that we would recommend bringing along for your pet's holiday to help them settle in and feel comfortable in their home away from home!

      PROOF OF VACCINATION

When checking your pet into the New Forest Kennels and Cattery, please bring your pet's vaccination card and we will add / update the details to our system.

If you don't have their vaccination card, please email your vets to get their vaccination record and forward it to us at hello@newforestkennelsandcattery.co.uk!

      LABELLED BEDDING

If your pet is nervous or its their first stay, then we encourage owners to bring in LABELLED washable bedding for their pets, so they have a familiar scent of home to help them settle into their holiday.

      LABELLED TOYS

Feel free to bring some LABELLED familiar toys that your pet loves to play with and you are confident they can be left unsupervised with, but please avoid bringing in any squeaky or loud toys.

For safety reasons, we recommend that any toys or items provided for your pet are as robust and indestructible as possible.

      TREATS

Whilst we love to offer our own enrichment, if your pet has allergies or they love specific treats that you give them at home, bring them in and we will happily give them their own.

      MEDICATION

To ensure your pet’s welfare, we are happy to administer medication between 8am - 8pm. We must have clear instructions and details of the medical condition.

ALL medication MUST include the veterinary label and packaging.

Please DO NOT mix any medication with food if bagging up food portions.

      FOOD

We encourage you to bring your pet's own food along to avoid any sudden changes to their diet.

Please bring enough for the length of their stay, plus as bit extra as well as any scoops you use at home along too!

If you'd prefer we are happy to provide food for your pet, however, an additional charge for each pet will apply.

      BRUSHES

If you'd like us to brush your furry friend, we ask that you bring your brush from home, so that we can use the brush they are used to and enjoy!

      NO NEED TO BRING

      CRATES

All doggies are in their inside kennel area at night, with plenty of comfy bedding so there's no need to bring a crate in.

      FOOD/WATER BOWLS

We have plenty of bowls, including slow-down bowls and puzzle feeders, that we use for the cats and dogs that stay with us. So unless your pet has a specialist bowl that they require, we ask that you please keep your bowls at home.

I have a specific request - can you help?

We are constantly striving to give your beloved pet a home away from home, treating them like our own and as an individual.

It is our mission to ensure their health and happiness, so if there are specific elements to your pet’s usual care, such as brushing, likes or dislikes, or any other quirk, please just let us know and we will be happy to help.

We will also ask you when checking your pet in with us if there have been any changes since your last visit, or if you’ve not used us before, a little more about your pet to help ensure we give them the best stay possible.

We know what our regular residents like and require to keep them comfy and happy - i.e favourite toys, treats, blankets, pee spots, favourite food, feeding place & pace, temperament, strength, and their body language too!
